Twain once wrote that the North Shore of Kauai is perhaps
one of the most spectacular spots on earth.
Kailani is located on the Garden Island of Kauai's verdantly
lush north shore in the beloved quaint town called Hanalei.
Description of the home.
Kailani is a Hawaiian style two-story home with its
construction completed in 1983. It is nestled in a local
village and is a short walk to famous Hanalei Bay. Kailani
is conveniently near several restaurants. Ching Young
Shopping Village is literally just a short stroll away!
Kailani has a very unique top and bottom floor plan with a
unique arrangement of the bed assignments. This home has two
queen beds, one full bed and one twin bed and can
accommodate 6 -7 people comfortably. See pictures.
A stairway leads
to the top floor that gives a sense of openness. The second
floor possesses a private living room-type area, small
entertainment center, wet bar with an under-the-counter
refrigerator and a very comfortable four post queen bed all
within the same open space! The private deck off this living
space is quite relaxing with commanding views of Mt.
Namolokama as a backdrop.
This top floor
also shares a small bedroom with a twin bed. The bathroom
with a combination tub/shower stall is shared.
The second four post queen bed is located on the first floor
separated by glass French doors. The second bedroom is off
the kitchen and has a full size bed. The bathroom has a
shower stall that is also shared.
The lower floor
possesses a truly quaint Hawaiian style kitchen with simple
modern conveniences of a refrigerator and gas stove. "Eh
(listen), braddah (brother), no mo' (there is no) da (the)
automatic dishwash-ah . . . " as the real locals would say
in pidgin english. As in the days of old, members of the
ohana (family) would help with the washing of the dishes.
This simple daily chore will certainly bring your ohana back
to basic living and another opportunity of the family doing
things together!
Ah-h, but you will have the modern convenience of a clothes
washer and dryer, toaster, coffee maker, grinder for your
Kona coffee beans and a blender for your exotic tropical
drinks!
Description of the location.
Kailani. "Kai"
means water or sea. It represents the water/sea of Hanalei
Bay that is nearby. "Lani" means the sky or the heavens and
represents the deep blue sky and puffy white clouds over
world renowned Hanalei Bay.
Hanalei means "lei making" in Hawaiian. Hanalei was the
backdrop of the 1958 musical film South Pacific and has been
the choice of scenery used by many film makers.
Approximately 40 feature films have used Kauai's North Shore
for thematic setting.
Historic Hanalei town is uniquely special. It is
merely a land area of 0.8 sq mi (2.1 km). Yet, this little
community town has two grocery stores, many little shops,
5-6 restaurants and at least 10 eateries for you to
discover. As of this writing, noteworthy mentions are Bar-Acuda,
Ching Young Village Snack Shop, Hanalei Dolphin & Fish
Market, Polynesia Cafe, Sushi Blues, Hanalei Gourmet and of
course the famous and popular Tahiti Nui for their live
musicians, impromptu hula by the local ladies and men, and a
new chef, new menu with "ono grinds" (delicious food).
Dinner at Tahiti Nui is served from Tuesdays through
Saturday, 6-9 p.m. Great musicians Koko Kaneali`i and Darryl
Gonsalves play on popular Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings.
The place is small and gets crowded, so getting there early
is key.
Kailani is a truly a loving tropical Hanalei home that will
give you the respite you seek and help you step back in
time. Leave your watch in your suitcase and plan your day in
Hawaii by the Hawaiian sunrise and sunset! E komo mai!
(Welcome!) and be a part of Kailani's ohana (family).
