Try These Amazing Breakfast Restaurants in Kauai

Kauai, Hawaii, is one of the world’s best vacation destinations. The sandy beaches, beautiful scenery, friendly locals, and great food make it a place where priceless memories are made. Of course, if you prefer your food served by a chef, there are many delicious restaurants in Kauai, many of which offer authentic Hawaiian cuisine. Multiple spots are just a short distance from our Kauai vacation home rentals!

While Hawaii may seem to be about surfing, paddleboarding, and snorkeling, many restaurants serve a wide variety of island cuisine. One could eat at a different restaurant every night of their stay and never eat the same meal twice! We recommend trying multiple restaurants during your stay in Kauai to experience as much local food as possible.

While it may not seem like an activity, eating at these restaurants is high on the list of things to do in Kauai! Here’s a list of the best breakfast restaurants in Kauai.

Eat Healthy Kauai

Eat Healthy Kauai is precisely as advertised: Hawaiian food with a healthy twist. Hawaiian diets are clean by nature, but Eat Healthy Kauai offers a plant-based menu and doubles down on the health aspect without compromising on flavor. If you have dietary restrictions or are simply looking for a mouthwatering and healthy meal while in town, don’t miss this eatery. It’s the perfect way to start your day happy and energized.

Their menu offers a wide variety of plant-based protein options that you can choose depending on the dish. Each dish is marked to notify whether or not it is gluten-free and contains nuts and/or soy; if you have a food allergy, you can still eat here. Consider starting with some Piña Coladas to kick off the evening, followed by their excellent jalapeno cheddar bites and some chili.

Eat Healthy Kauai also offers a kids’ menu, so everyone has options. Make sure to check out Eat Healthy Kauai; you’ll love it! Visit them at 4-369 Kuhio Highway in the town of Kapaa. They’re open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Hualani’s Restaurant

Hualani’s Restaurant is a farm-to-table style restaurant, except their farm is the sea. Therefore, Hualani offers a wide spread of fresh seafood from the island’s waters. Of course, they accentuate the menu with fresh-picked vegetables from the island and beef from local cows. You may want to start your meal with some potent cocktails or share an appetizer like lobster tempura or a Harvest Salad. Just leave room for their pan-seared swordfish and Kalo green curry!

Hualani’s coconut shrimp with herbed sweet chili dipping sauce is one of the best side dishes. You can also choose coconut jasmine rice, Yukon mash, or steamed bok choy to complement your dish. Hualani should be on everyone’s list while vacationing in Hawaii.

Dukes Kauai

The period between breakfast and lunch is when things must be done, except on weekends when everyone has a relaxing start to the day. Then, breakfast and lunch combine to become brunch. Duke’s Kauai comes in, serving brunch to all comers. Brunch is served on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., inviting you to enjoy a tempting meal in a welcoming Hawaiian setting.

The namesake of Dukes Kauai, Duke Kahanamoku, was a world-class surfer descended from royalty. He introduced surfing to the American West Coast, Australia, and New Zealand. He won several Olympic gold medals and held the record for the longest rogue wave ride, at 1.125 miles. He was sheriff for the county and city of Honolulu and won reelection 13 times. Additionally, he was the first person to be inducted into both the Swimming and Surfing Halls of Fame. Sadly, he passed away on January 22, 1968, just two years after earning this honor. His legacy lives on in the Restaurant, with excellent food and surfing history.

The Sunday brunch menu is standard fare, including omelets, fried potatoes and rice, pancakes, and sausage and bacon. You can choose island favorites like the Huli Huli chicken with pineapple gremolata, Kalua pork, cabbage, or wok-charred seasonal vegetables. Pair your pickings with Duke’s Signature Bloody Mary or some fresh-squeezed juice. Enjoy it all while you listen to live music!

Kalaheo Cafe

Kalaheo Cafe is a quintessential Hawaiian breakfast cafe. While they serve meals from breakfast through dinner, their party piece is the breakfast menu. There are vegan and non-vegan options to suit everyone’s preferences and needs. Many visitors highly recommend the Kahili Breakfast with a cup of their medium roast coffee (locally grown and roasted) for breakfast set to power you through the day. See why so many people say this eatery has the best breakfast in Kauai.

Of course, their cinnamon French toast is a must-have, as are their buttermilk pancakes. All food is made using local ingredients grown and harvested on the island, so whatever you’re eating was likely produced and picked just a few miles from the Restaurant. Kalaheo puts the locals in locally sourced food. An acai smoothie is a fantastic topper on the entire experience.
